These are a few notes following my three lectures concerning the chemical evolution of galaxies (which allows me to introduce several important concepts), star formation on galactic scales (an important \ingredient" of galaxy evolution), and outskirts of galaxies (where we can learn important information about the assembly and evolution of galaxies).
