THE 550th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTHDAY OF N. COPERNICUS
The year 2023 is a special year, especially for Polish astronomers. It is this year that we celebrate the Year of Nicolaus Copernicus, established by the Senate of the Republic of Poland with a resolution of November 16, 2022 (M.P. 2022 poz. 1120). As it was emphasized, Nicolaus Copernicus is counted among the greatest scientists in the history of the world, and his name is inextricably linked to his homeland – Poland. In 2023, we celebrate both the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus and the 480th anniversary of the death of the great astronomer and the publication of his work: De revolutionibus orbium coelestium.
100 YEARS OF PTA
The Polish Astronomical Society (PTA) was founded exactly 100 years ago, on February 19, 1923, in Toruń, at the Congress of Polish Astronomers. PTA is a group of professional astronomers. It currently has about 270 members and works in two fields. It supports scientific research in astronomy and related sciences as a scientific society. The second field is astronomy popularization and education in society.
The main celebrations for the PTA’s 100th anniversary will take place during the XLI Congress of the PTA, the largest Polish scientific conference on astronomy and space research, on September 11-15, 2023 in Toruń.
